With the cafe affogato, you’re in for a tasty treat!
This is a coffee drink that does not disappoint. Are you ready?
You will need your favorite ice cream. I typically use vanilla ice cream, but today I decided to try something different and I used Peanut Butter ice cream with chocolate flakes. Yum!
Today is a good day to be adventurous.
Dig out your best cappuccino cup and add 2 scoops of ice cream. The flavor is up to you: chocolate mint, butterscotch ripple, cookies’n’cream,… the possibilities are endless!
Now you add a shot of espresso. Unsweetened. You can brew a fresh shot of espresso, which is completely ok. I wanted to use some of my espresso concentrate I had in the fridge so I measured a shot and poured it into my steamer cup to steam. One shot is 2 ounces.
Once the espresso concentrate has finished steaming, you simply pour it over top of your ice cream. It will make the ice cream begin to melt instantly and blend beautifully with the espresso.
You don’t need to add any sweetner. The ice cream will be enough to sweeten your drink. Although, adding a drizzle of chocolate is a must when you use peanut butter chocolate flake ice cream! I’m sure caramel sauce would taste pretty good too!
The key to drinking a cafe affogato is to take your time. You want to give the ice cream a chance to melt and to blend with the espresso. You want every sip to have a blend of both coffee and cream.
